Were They All Saved?

The apostle Paul wrote many letters to churches that are recorded in the New Testament, but was every person in the churches a Christian?

The first chapter of Romans record that Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome. Romans 1:7-8 inform, "To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world."

Romans 1:18-32 go on to reveal God's wrath against sin -

18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Knowing that the Romans would boldly think that those are horrible people for committing such sins and should be punished, Paul declared that they were guilty of the same type of sins that were just listed. Romans 2:1 says, "Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things."

Romans 2:2-16 add -

2But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. (God, in his justice, will punish anyone who sins in the ways listed in Romans 1:18-32.) 3And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? (They judged others for sinning in those ways, but they needed to know that God will judge them for sinning in the same ways. As you will see, some of these people weren't really Christians.) 4Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? (They didn't realize how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God was to them by giving them a chance to ask Him to forgive them for commiting these sins and try their best, with His help, not to do them again. Some of the Romans who recieved this letter, no doubt, repented of these sins and proved to be true Christians.) 5But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; (However, some of the Romans, it seems, didn't repent and prove to be Christians because this verse teaches that they were stubborn and refused to quit committing those sins, their hearts kept getting harder, and God would soon pour out His wrath on them by sending them to hell.) 6Who will render to every man according to his deeds: (God will judge both good and sin. 7To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: (He will give eternal life to those who have accepted Jesus as their Savior, and as a result, they continue to live the type of lifestyle described in chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com and continue to look forward to the glory and honor and immortality waiting for them in heaven.) 8But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 9Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; (Someone who knows right from wrong and never becomes a Christian will go to hell when they die. But God will also send someone to hell who has prayed or made a decision to become a Christian if they (continually without truly trying to repent - explained in chapter 10 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com) live for themselves, refuse to obey God's way, and live wicked lifestyles (They don't live the type of lifestlye described in chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com). There will be trouble and disaster for everyone (the Jew first and also for the Gentile) who continues to sin without repenting (asking God to forgive them for their sins and trying their best, with His help, not to do them again) and accepting Jesus as their Savior.) 10But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: (But there will be glory and honor in heaven for people who are Christians (people who have accepted Jesus as their Savior and live the type of lifestyle described in chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresavd.com), and they will have assurance they are really Christians, eventhough horrible trials happen in their lives.) 11For there is no respect of persons with God. (God doesn't show favoritism.)

12For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; 13(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. (Paul was referring to the Jews and the Old Testament law, but this can be applied to us as well - Listening to pastors explain the Bible and learning how to live the way the Bible says to live doesn't make us a Christian. We must recieve Jesus as our Savior and actually live the way the Bible says to live (see chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com) instead of just "knowing" how to live the way the Bible says to live.) 14For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: (People who haven't been taught the Ten Commandments and other parts of God's law show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, eventhough they have never been taught it.) 15Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) (They show that God’s law is written in their hearts, because when they sin, they know that they have said, thought, and/or done something they shouldn't have. Also, when they say, think, and/or do something that was right, they sense that they have done right and haven't sinned.) 16In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. (God, through Jesus Christ, knows our thoughts and motives. Someone can claim to be a Christian, but if they continually live the Christian life with wrong motives, they aren't really Christians. Please follow chapter 40 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com for more information.)

In conclusion, if you have asked Jesus into your heart, believed that Jesus is your Savior, or trusted Jesus' death on the cross and His shed blood to erase your sins and let you into heaven, etc., but you haven't been living the way chapter 39 and 40 of this book -

www.areyousureyouaresaved.com describe, please follow chapter 10 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com
