Serving For The Right Reasons

Doing things to help people's mental, physical, financial, and spiritual needs is a major part of the Christian life. However, if we do these things out of unwanted duty or to show off, we are doing them for the wrong reasons. Psalm 139:23-24 says, "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

Christians should serve others because they are thankful for Jesus dying on the cross to erase their sins and for all the things that are waiting for them in heaven.

Other than those reasons, Christians should want to help people who are suffering suffer no more. We love because He first loved us. Before Jesus erases our sins and we know we will spend eternity in heaven, which is far more perfect than anything we have ever experienced on this earth, we are slaves to sin (Romans 6:20-22 - For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.) and don't have the peace and assurance we will go to heaven when we leave this world. Therefore, we are very misreable, but God loved us and gave us the assurance of heaven and helps us know the real purpose in life (This is explained in chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com).

Because God loves us in this way, we should love others (for example, pass this sermon on to others and this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com) so they can experience the love God showed toward us and help people's mental, physical, financial, and spiritual needs we come across (Chapters 24, 26-33, and 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com explain how to do this.). We do these things (love others) because God first loved us.
