Great Advice, But....

My copy and paste feature doesn't keep the words that are supposed to be italicized, so instead of me doing it manually, refer to a Bible to see which words are italicized.

I've read and heard good explanations on saving faith. For example, when explaining Acts 16:31, "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.", people say things such as, "The Bible says that if I believe Jesus is the Savior, I will become a Christian, so I believed the Bible and became a Christian when I told God that I believe Jesus is the Savior."

There are people who really become Christians when they make such decisions, because the Philippian jailer became a Christian after Acts 16:31. Although, if you read Acts 16:25-30, you should know that his heart was definitely prepared to receive Jesus. But, Paul didn't simply witness this way to everyone, because he said in Acts 26:20 that he told those in Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance. This means these people would have known that they really repented and turned to God if they began to do good works after they accepted Jesus as their Savior. They needed to be willing to begin following Jesus after they accepted Him as their Savior. Paul couldn't read peoples’ hearts like Jesus was able to do, and as a result, he told many how to prepare their hearts to receive Jesus by getting them to repent (Acts 26:20).

So, when people make statements like the one in the first paragraph of this message, they are leaving out repentance, which plays an important role in people becoming Christians.
