For Wednesday evening services, the Lord has lead me to do a Bible study for practical Bible verses in Matthew. Please come back to these Bible lessons in order to review them and learn them. Whenever we have learned the meaning of Bible verses and think about them throughout each day, we will be in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Not only that, but when we are in a situation in our daily lives and are tempted to sin, we can think back to what we have learned from the Bible and say to ourselves, "The Bible says to not do what I am tempted to say, think, do, and/or desire right now, so I am going to refuse to give in to this temptation." This is what Romans 12:2 means, and it says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is also the pattern that Jesus used when the devil tempted Him to sin in Matthew 4:1-11.

Chapter 22

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW

Matthew 22:41-45

41While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David. 43He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit (This means the Holy Spirit came upon David and revealed this to him. In the Old Testament, this rarely happened. Although, during Pentecost in Acts, the Holy Spirit arrived and has been present ever since.) call him Lord, saying,

44The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?

45If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? 46And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

These verses are yet more proof that Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus fulfilled hundreds of prophecies from the Old Testament.

Chapter 23

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW

Matthew 23:1-12

1Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: (They were the official interpreters of the law of Moses.) 3All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; (The people, like us today, should do what the Bible says to do and don't do what it says not to do.) but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. (The people should have obeyed God's Word the scribes and the Pharisees were teaching, but the scribes and the Pharisees didn't literally live the way they taught people to live from God's Word. Jesus is telling us not to follow the scribes' and the Pharisees' example.) 4For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, 6And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. (Everything they did was to show off and to get people to admire them and think they were holy. 8But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. 9And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. 10Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. 11But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. (A Christian shouldn't try to lift themselves up as someone great and important. Instead, Jesus wants us to think differently and be humble. Jesus taught that true greatness comes by serving others and not by having people serve you. Mark 10:44-45 say, "... but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." Chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com gives examples of how to serve others.) 12And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. (If someone doesn't live the way that was just mentioned, they will be humbled, but if a Christian lives the way that was just mentioned, they will be exalted when they get to heaven.)

If you have asked Jesus into your heart, believed that Jesus is your Savior, or trusted Jesus' death on the cross and His shed blood to erase your sins and let you into heaven, etc., but you have not been living these ways, please follow chapter 10 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com
