Opening Prayer - Heavenly Father as we come to you this evening, our hearts are still heavy due to the terrorist attacks in Paris. We know that the terrorists are planning more attacks in France, the US, and other places. We want to do what the Holy Spirit revealed to us to do in the January 4th sermon in order to "know" that You are going to stop the terrorist's plans and reveal Your Son to them in such a way that they will turn from their sinful ways and become Christians. When this happens, we pray that You, Your Son, and the Holy Spirit will receive all the credit and the glory! Please bring peace like only You can. We thank You for the oppertunity to learn about Your Word. We pray that you will help us to understand these verses in Matthew so we can fulfill our purpose in life. May everyone who tunes in this evening receive a blessing and learn from your Word and be able to apply what we have learned in our daily lives. We're eternally thankful for this ministry, and we pray that we can share these websites with others and many people can begin to have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. For Wednesday evening services, the Lord has lead me to do a Bible study for practical Bible verses in Matthew. Please come back to these Bible lessons in order to review them and learn them. Whenever we have learned the meaning of Bible verses and think about them throughout each day, we will be in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Not only that, but when we are in a situation in our daily lives and are tempted to sin, we can think back to what we have learned from the Bible and say to ourselves, "The Bible says to not do what I am tempted to say, think, or do right now, so I am going to refuse to give in to this temptation." This is what Romans 12:2 means, and it says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is also the pattern that Jesus used when the devil tempted Him to sin in Matthew 4:1-11.
Chapter 5
THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW
Matthew chapters 5-7 are Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. Matthew 4:17 means if someone wants to go to Heaven, they need to be willing to repent (change the way they live and think) from this moment on. Matthew chapters 5-7 explains how someone needs to be willing to live and think, from this moment on, if they want to repent and go to Heaven. Also, if someone wants to get saved, they need to be consciously or unconsciously willing to follow (imitate and obey) Jesus "from that moment on and for the rest of their life". If someone is not willing to live the way Jesus' Sermon on the Mount explains, they are not willing to follow (imitate and obey) Jesus. Therefore, that person is not ready to become a Christian by trusting Jesus' death on the cross and His shed blood to erase their sins and let them into Heaven. Matthew 5:23-26
23Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 24Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. 25Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. (It is good advice to appologize and be at peace with someone you have made mad before their anger causes more trouble (Proverbs 25:8-10). However, if someone is preaching, witnessing, or writing and makes someone else angry, then there is no reason to appologize to them for what the Bible says. They are either bothered because the Holy Spirit is urging them to get saved, they are angry because the person preaching, witnessing, or writing has proved that their theology is not correct; or they are a false teacher and have been exposed.) 26Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
If someone gets ready to give an offering, and they remember that they have said or done something to a friend that made them mad, they should ask that person to forgive them before they give their offering. If there is a problem between two or more people, they should get that resolved and not develop hatred toward each other. If we hate someone (boldly disagreeing with someone over and over in our minds), we are actually showing hatred towards God (1 John 4:20). 1 John 4:20,21 says, "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also."
