For Wednesday evening services, the Lord has lead me to do a Bible study for practical Bible verses in Matthew. Please come back to these Bible lessons in order to review them and learn them. Whenever we have learned the meaning of Bible verses and think about them throughout each day, we will be in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Not only that, but when we are in a situation in our daily lives and are tempted to sin, we can think back to what we have learned from the Bible and say to ourselves, "The Bible says to not do what I am tempted to say, think, do, and/or desire right now, so I am going to refuse to give in to this temptation." This is what Romans 12:2 means, and it says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is also the pattern that Jesus used when the devil tempted Him to sin in Matthew 4:1-11.

Chapter 21

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW

Matthew 21:12-13

12And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. (Churches are made for people to gather to pray, worship, and learn God's Word, not to buy and sell things. If you have prayed or made a decision to become a Christian, but you have been guilty of this, ask God to forgive you and remeber to not do it again.)

Matthew 21:18-22

18Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered. 19And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

20And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! 21Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. 22And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

If you ask God to heal you and others, help you make the right decisions when you don't know what to do, and save people who are not Christians, etc., God will hear you. He won't necessarily answer prayers that aren't according to His will. First John 5:14 explains this, and it says, "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:"

So, what if we are not totally sure that God will answer our prayers? The Lord has revealed to me a very simple and effective way to be sure. Many times each day, we sit in chairs and do not even worry if they will be able to hold us without falling apart and dropping us to the floor. The same kind of worry-free faith can literally be used when we ask God to heal us and others, help us make the right decisions when we don't know what to do, and save people who are not Christians.

For example, if your friend has cancer, and you want Jesus to heal him, you can imagine that the cancer is the chair you are sitting in. You have faith (are confident) that the chair is not going to fall apart while you are sitting in it, and since the cancer is the same part of the chair you know will not fall apart while you are sitting in it, you believe that Jesus will heal your friend of cancer. Since you believe the chair is not going to fall apart, that is all the faith you need. Since the cancer and the chair are the same thing, your only job is to believe that the chair is not going to fall apart while you are sitting in it, and tell this to God. As a result, your friend will be healed of cancer by Jesus’ healing power (Matthew 21:18-22).

However, if you are a Christian, but you have sinned and have not asked God to forgive you for that sin, God will not answer your prayers until you have asked God to forgive you for saying something sinful, thinking something sinful, doing something sinful, or not doing something the Holy Spirit urged you to say or do. Also, you should ask God to forgive you for sinning in ways you didn’t realize you have sinned. Another point is described in Matthew 5:23-24 which teach the necessity of apologizing to people we have sinned against. These concepts are taught in Psalm 66:18 which says, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:"
