For Wednesday evening services, the Lord has lead me to do a Bible study for practical Bible verses in Matthew. Please come back to these Bible lessons in order to review them and learn them. Whenever we have learned the meaning of Bible verses and think about them throughout each day, we will be in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Not only that, but when we are in a situation in our daily lives and are tempted to sin, we can think back to what we have learned from the Bible and say to ourselves, "The Bible says to not do what I am tempted to say, think, do, and/or desire right now, so I am going to refuse to give in to this temptation." This is what Romans 12:2 means, and it says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is also the pattern that Jesus used when the devil tempted Him to sin in Matthew 4:1-11.

Chapter 17

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW

Matthew 17:24-27

24And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? 25He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? 26Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. 27Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

In order to represent their country well and not offend the people in the country they visit, foreign ambassadors should obey their laws if they aren't contray to the Bible's message. In the same way, Christians are ambassadors to Jesus and are citizens of His Kingdom, not this worlds'. Because of this, Christians must obey the law.

If you have prayed or made a decision to become a Christian, but you haven't been obeying the law, please follow chapter 10 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com

Chapter 18

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW

Matthew 18:1-9

1At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (In response to the disciples' question in verse one, Jesus was teaching them not to be focused on competing for high positions and being proud. Instead, He was wanting them to think differently and be humble. Jesus taught that true greatness came by serving others and not by having people serve you. Mark 10:44-45 say, "... but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." Chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com gives examples of how to serve others. If you have prayed or made a decision to become a Christian, but you haven't been living these ways, please follow chapter 10 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com Another meaning of this verse is that people need to have child-like faith. As we all know, a child will pretty much believe anything you tell them, and they don't debate it in their minds. They accept it by faith. We need to believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the Way to heaven and not doubt these truths.) 5And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. 6But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. (It is a very big mistake if we cause children (or anyone) to sin. If you have prayed or made a decision to become a Christian, but you have been trying to upset and/or encourage others to say, think, do, and/or desire things that are sinful, please follow chpater 10 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com)
