For Wednesday evening services, the Lord has lead me to do a Bible study for practical Bible verses in Matthew. Please come back to these Bible lessons in order to review them and learn them. Whenever we have learned the meaning of Bible verses and think about them throughout each day, we will be in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Not only that, but when we are in a situation in our daily lives and are tempted to sin, we can think back to what we have learned from the Bible and say to ourselves, "The Bible says to not do what I am tempted to say, think, do, and/or desire right now, so I am going to refuse to give in to this temptation." This is what Romans 12:2 means, and it says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is also the pattern that Jesus used when the devil tempted Him to sin in Matthew 4:1-11.

Chapter 12

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW

Matthew 12:38-42

38Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. (After all the amazing miracles Jesus had done (This was one of the ways that proved Jesus was the Savior.), they still asked for more evidence. They refused to believe due to their jealously and hatred.) 39But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (This is the sign Jesus gave them. After they witness Jesus' death on the cross, His burrial, and His ressurection on the third day, they will have another sign that proves He is the Way to heaven.) 41The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. (Every person in Nineveh repented after Jonah ran through the streets saying, "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown." (Jonah 3:4). This statement alone was all it took for them to turn to God (Jonah 3:5-10). The people in Jesus' day had a lot more evidence that proved they needed God than the people of Nineveh. Indeed, Jesus was much greater than Jonah (Matthew 12:41). 42The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. (This verse is making the same point as the previous verse.)

Matthew 12:43-45

43When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of

that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

Some people think that these verses mean that you shouldn't cast demons out of people, because the demon will come back with more demons and possess the person again. As a result, the person will be in a worse condition than they were before the first demon was cast out them. This isn't the case, because Jesus casted many demons out of many people; if Jesus knew they would end up in a far worse condition, He wouldn't have cast any demons out of anyone.

However, Jesus was making reference to people who quit commiting certain sins (for example, getting drunk), and they relax and  think that they are in a good standing with God. But they fail to get busy by beginning to follow Jesus in "all" areas of their life (For instructions on how to follow Jesus, see chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com). An example of this from the Old Testament is found in Ezra - The people rid themselves of idolatry, but they didn't begin to replace that by persuing and obeying God.
