For Sunday evening services, the Lord has lead me to do a Bible study for practical Bible verses in Mark. Please come back to these Bible lessons in order to review them and learn them. Whenever we have learned the meaning of Bible verses and think about them throughout each day, we will be in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Not only that, but when we are in a situation in our daily lives and are tempted to sin, we can think back to what we have learned from the Bible and say to ourselves, "The Bible says to not do what I am tempted to say, think, do, and/or desire right now, so I am going to refuse to give in to this temptation." This is what Romans 12:2 means, and it says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is also the pattern that Jesus used when the devil tempted Him to sin in Matthew 4:1-11.

Chapter 7

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARK

Mark 7:1-13

1Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem. 2And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault. 3For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. 4And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables. 5Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands? (The scribes and Pharisees had many rituals and tranditions they performed, which made them think they were devout and holy, but their hearts didn't belong to God. Jesus explains this in the next verse.)

6He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. (This means you can tell someone that you have said a prayer to get saved, you can go to church, pray before you go to bed, and read your Bible, but if you don't have full fellowship with Christ, your heart is far from Him. Some verses that supports this are (2 Corinthians 5:15-17, Matthew 12:30, Matthew 6:24, and Revelation 3:15-16); there is no riding the fence when it comes to living the Christian lifestyle.) If you have prayed or made a decision to become a Christian, but you don't have full fellowship with Christ (This lifestyle is described in chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com), please follow chapter 10 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com)

7Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. (The scribes and Pharisees had their traditions, but a popular tradition that people teach and believe today is that praying to believe that Jesus is your Savior, going to church, praying before you go to bed, and reading your Bible is all there is to the Christian lifestyle. Chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com proves there is more to the Christian lifestyle.)

8For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

9And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. 10For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: 11But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. 12And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; 13Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. (In this instance, they negleted to take care of their parents who needed their financial support, and the excuse they used was that they vowed to give the money that was supposed to be used to help their parents to God instead. Jesus made the point that they were not honoring their parents when they did this.)
