For Wednesday evening services, the Lord has lead me to do a Bible study for practical Bible verses in Luke. Please come back to these Bible lessons in order to review them and learn them. Whenever we have learned the meaning of Bible verses and think about them throughout each day, we will be in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Not only that, but when we are in a situation in our daily lives and are tempted to sin, we can think back to what we have learned from the Bible and say to ourselves, "The Bible says to not do what I am tempted to say, think, do, and/or desire right now, so I am going to refuse to give in to this temptation." This is what Romans 12:2 means, and it says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is also the pattern that Jesus used when the devil tempted Him to sin in Matthew 4:1-11.

Chapter 4

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LUKE

Luke 4:1-13

1And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. (God was wanting Jesus to fast, and the devil tried to get Jesus to disobey His Father. If we are a Christian and the Holy Spirit urges us and gives us thoughts to do things such as witness to and help others or study the Bible, we should not let the devil cause us to do something different. When we spend our time doing what we want to do instead of spending our time doing what God wants us to do, we are sinning.)

5And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan (Whenever Satan tempts you to sin, this is an effective thing to say to him.): for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. (The devil was trying to get Jesus to take the easy way out by receiving all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them now without first going through the suffering He was going to have to go through on the cross. In the same way, we must patiently get through the sufferings of trials on earth if we want to share in the future glory in heaven (James 1:12 and 1 Peter 5:10). In other words, if we profess to be a Christian, but we give up living the Christian lifestyle and never return to living that lifestyle, that proves that we are not really Christians. We should also be happy when we have trials because Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God (This describes a Christian who witnesses to and/or helps others (puts people's needs before their needs), and when they aren't doing that, they try to keep their mind on the things of God, and they do these things because they want to make God look good in front of others and enjoy living this way more than other ways.), to them who are the called according to his purpose (This describes a Christian who spends their time each day doing the type of things that were just mentioned in the previous note.)." If you have prayed or made a decision to get saved, and you live the way Romans 8:28 just described, you will have one way of knowing that you are really saved. So when you face trails, it is just another piece of evidence, so you shouldn't think that something strange and out of the ordinary is happening in your life (1 Peter 4:12). Also, you know something good is going to come out of it, even though you may not be able to recognize it. Another important verse on this topic is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 which says, "Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will (This means what God wants.) of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.")

9And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

10For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:

11And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

12And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. (People shouldn't ask God to show them signs so they will believe in Him; they must believe by faith. It is also very important for people to read "all" of the Bible because the devil tries to lead people to read one Bible verse and ignore the rest of the Bible, which is what he tried to do to Jesus in these verses. Many people, for example, are tricked into believing that they will go to Heaven if they try to keep the Ten Commandments, and that is all they need to do.)

13And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
