For Wednesday evening services, the Lord has lead me to do a Bible study for practical Bible verses in Luke. Please come back to these Bible lessons in order to review them and learn them. Whenever we have learned the meaning of Bible verses and think about them throughout each day, we will be in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Not only that, but when we are in a situation in our daily lives and are tempted to sin, we can think back to what we have learned from the Bible and say to ourselves, "The Bible says to not do what I am tempted to say, think, do, and/or desire right now, so I am going to refuse to give in to this temptation." This is what Romans 12:2 means, and it says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is also the pattern that Jesus used when the devil tempted Him to sin in Matthew 4:1-11.

Chapter 1

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LUKE

Luke 1:59-80

59And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. 60And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John. 61And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. 62And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. 63And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all. 64And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God. 65And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea. 66And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.

67And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,

68Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,

69And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;

70As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:

71That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

72To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

73The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,

74That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, (Christians shouldn't stop witnesssing to and/or helping others due to enemies wanting to stop them.)

75In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. (Christians should live holy and righteous lives until they leave this world. Chapter 39 of this book www.areyousureyouaresaved.com shares what holy and righteous living looks like.)

76And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; (John the Baptist's responsibilty was to prepare people for Jesus' coming by getting them to repent (Luke 1:17). John the Baptist said in Matthew 3:2 “And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” He then said in Matthew 3:7-8 “But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:” When John the Baptist said, “Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:” - he meant that if someone repented (or changed, with God’s help, and began to think and live the way God wants them to think and live), they will know it because they will begin to bear good fruit (becoming more holy in the way they live (They live a set-apart lifestyle like the one described in chapter 39 of this book.); sharing their material possessions (Romans 15:28); having Jesus' character traits (Galatians 5:22–23), praising the Lord (Hebrews 13:15), answered prayer (1 John 5:14–15), and doing good works (Colossians 1:10)).)

77To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, (If the people were willing to repent, they became Christians after they believed Jesus was their Savior.)

78Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, (This is referring to Jesus.)

79To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death (those who aren't Christians), to guide our feet into the way of peace. (Jesus died on the cross to erase our sins and teaches us how to live for Him through the Bible. Chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com summarizes how Christians can live for Him.)

80And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
