Response To Athiests

People who say they don't believe in God usually make the following points:

1. If God is love, why does He send people to hell?

2. Why does He not answer some Christians prayers when they are facing life or death situations?

3. Why does He allow tragic things to happen?

The answer to the first question is - Second Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” God doesn't want anyone to go to hell, but if they are not “willing” to repent of their sins (try to quit sinning “from that moment on” and for the rest of their life), they aren’t ready to receive Jesus into their heart (explained in chapters 16 and 8 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com) and be saved by trusting Jesus’ work on the cross to save them and believing He arose from the dead.

Also, notice the word ‘perish’ in 2 Peter 3:9. Jesus used the same word in Luke 13:5 which says, “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” God doesn’t want anyone to go to hell (perish), but if someone is not “willing to repent”, they will “perish” (go to hell).

A verse similar to 2 Peter 3:9 that is spoken of often is Matthew 25:41. It is true that God created hell for the devil and his angels, and God didn’t intend for people to spend eternity there, but if people refuse to repent, they will have no other choice than to spend eternity in hell (Luke 13:5).

The answer to the second question is - There are several reasons why their prayers weren't answered, and chapter 37 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com explains this. Also, it may have been their time when God planned to take them out of this world. The first part of Ecclesiastes 3:2 says, "A time to be born, and a time to die;"

The answer to the third question is - The same can be said about this answer as the previous answer. In addition to this, we simply don't understand all of God's ways. Romans 9:20 states, "Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?"
