Giving to the needy, charities, and evangelistic associations, etc. is a rewarding feeling, when the money is given because Christians really want to help the people in need. (2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”)

​

Instead of only receiving a rewarding feeling, Christians will literally be rewarded in heaven for giving the way explained in the previous paragraph. This is what Philippians 4:17 teaches, "Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account." Paul, with common sense, understood that money (a gift) doesn't compare to rewards in heaven.
