Sin And Assurance

Romans 6:1-23

1What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (When Christians are baptised, it symbolizes that their sinful lifestyle is being burried, and when they are raised out of the water, it represents that they are a new person and will live their new lifestyle by following Jesus. (For information on how to follow Jesus, see chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com) Just like Jesus was raised from the dead by the glorious power of God, Christians are given new life, and the power of the Holy Spirit gives them the ability to live the Christian lifestyle. The Christian lifestyle is described in chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com)  5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: (If we have died to our sins (became a Christian), we will follow Jesus afterwards and be raised to heaven when we leave this world. For an explaination on how someone can become a Christian, see chapter 41 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com) 6Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceaforth we should not serve sin. (When someone is a Christian, their old sinful lifestyle is dead. When the Holy Spirit (the third person in the Trinity. One of His purposes is to help Christians be able to live the Christian lifestyle.) comes to live inside a person as soon as they become a Christian (This is known as being baptised by the Holy Ghost.), sin doesn't seem as attractive and desirable. For example, when a drug addict or alcholic becomes a Christian, they lose their desire to do drugs and get drunk. This also applies to Christians who used to gossip, have sex before marriage, brag, try to irritate others, etc. A Christian doesn't love to sin, and they don't enjoy seeing and hearing sinful things. Before someone becomes a Christian, they don't have the Holy Spirit living inside them. As a result, they don't have the ability to stop sinning. This is known as serving sin.)  7For he that is dead is freed from sin. (Since a Christian's desire to sin isn't as strong as it used to be, sin doesn't seem as appealing.)

Christians don't say, think, do, and/or desire things that God hates.on purpose. (For explainations of sins, see chapters 18 and 35 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com) If you have prayed or made a decision to become a Christian, but you sin on purpose, still have the same desires to sin the way you did before you prayed or made a decision to become a Christian, and haven't been living the way these verses have described, please follow chapter 10 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com

8Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: (If someone has prayed or made a decision to become a Christian, and they have died to their sins (lived the way Romans 6:1-7 has described) they will know that they are really a Christian.) 9Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. (A Christian should continue to live the way Romans 6:1-7 has described throughout their life.)

12Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. (Instead of living a sinful lifestyle, a Christian should live the kind of lifestyle described in chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com) 14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. (Keeping the Old Testament law doesn't give someone salvation, and it doesn't give them the ability to live the way Romans 6:1-7 describes. However, if someone is saved by grace (a free gift of salvation from God), the Holy Spirit comes to live inside them and gives them the ability to live the way Romans 6:1-7 describes.)

15What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? (Someone who lives a sinful lifestyle (which is opposite from the lifestyle described in chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com) will not go to heaven.) 17But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. (Since a Christian lives the way Romans 6:1-7 describes, they are able to be servants of righteousness (live the way chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com describes.).) 19I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. (Before someone becomes a Christian, they live a sinful lifestyle. After they become a Christian, they begin to follow Jesus more and more over time (This lifestyle is described in chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com)

20For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. (If a Christian lives the way Romans 6:1-7 describes, they are able to live a holy lifestyle (described in chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com), and if someone has prayed or made a decision to become a Christian, and they live a holy lifestyle as a result, they will know that they have really became a Christian.) 23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
