That's Great, But....

My copy and paste feature doesn't keep the words that are supposed to be italicized, so instead of me doing it manually, refer to a Bible to see which words are italicized.

A lot of people mean well and want everybody to go to heaven, and in the process, they water down their presentation of how people become Christians, and leave out repentance (not just another word for believe (see Mark 1:1-5)). The following is covered in detail in my pdf book, so I'm gonna summarize:

John the Baptist's purpose was to prepare people to receive Jesus as their Savior by getting them to repent of their sins, and if they were willing to do so, they were ready to become Christians by believing Jesus was their Savior once He arrived. If Christians are only allowed to tell people that they need to believe in Jesus in order to become Christians, John the Baptist's mission was useless.

Some may say that John's message of repentance was only for the people in that time and area, but notice John's statement in Matthew 3:8 compared to Paul's in Acts 26:20. Also, Paul preached repentance (Acts 26:20) before belief (Acts 26:22-23), and he did the same in Acts 20:20-21 and Hebrews 6:1. Repentance prepares our hearts to receive Jesus as Savior.
