In continuation of the previous five messages, James 4:1-3 goes into more detail as to what causes hateful speech, "1From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. (We can apply these verses to professing Christians that have been covered in the previous five messages who want things that someone has, so they scheme how they can hurt them with their words in order to make themselves feel better. They aren't able to have they want, so they resort to childish insults.)
