False Teachings

The Lord has led me to do a Sunday evening series on popular teaching in churches that has literally sent people to hell. The unfortunate thing is that these pastors and teachers refuse to admit that they are wrong and change their views. However, not all of these pastors and teachers are trying to trick people, but it is very important for you to learn about these unbiblical views and warn others so they will not be deceived by these false teachings. Therefore, please pass these sermons on to others.

Before I begin to warn you about teachings that are false, the Bible actually instructs members of a church to remove people from their church who claim to be Christians, but they refuse to stop their evil ways. This definitely includes proven false teachers who are pastors and Sunday school teachers. 1 Corinthians 5:12,13; 2 John 1: 9-11; 1 Corinthians 5:2,7; 2 Corinthians 6:14-16; 2 Corinthians 11:3-6,12-15; 1 Timothy 1:3; 3:1-10; and Titus 1:6-9 support this.

(The book that is mentioned in this message is - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com)

False Teaching # 36 (Some of this teaching is correct, and it is underlined.) -

Matthew 7:13-14 which says, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." means that the reason many people go to hell is because they try to earn their salvation by doing good works and/or try to perform strick religious regulations/traditions like those of the Pharisees in Jesus' day before they believe in Jesus and get saved.

The Bible's Teaching -

The overall theme of this message was a good and different view of how someone can become a Christian. Instead of saying that everyone who says a pray to believe that Jesus died on the cross for their sins will go to heaven and can live any way they want to live after that, the speaker taught that sinners can come to Jesus just the way they are and believe in Him, but also trust that He will let them know what He wants them to do for Him now that they are a Christian. Although, proven and knowledgeable Bible theologians wouldn't come to the conclusion that Matthew 7:13-14 means that the reason many people go to hell is because they try to earn their salvation by doing good works and/or try to perform strick religious regulations/traditions like those of the Pharisees in Jesus' day before they believe in Jesus and get saved.

This speaker refuses to mention the following verses and explainations -

In Acts 26:19,20 the apostle Paul was addressing king Agrippa and said, “Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.” Chapter 5 of this book explains this passage.

Hebrews 6:1 states, “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,” Notice that repentance from dead works (which are sins) comes before faith. Some church leaders would proclaim that someone is adding to the gospel (will go to hell) if they tell other people that they need to repent (be willing to quit sinning, and if they are willing to try to avoid sinning for the rest of their life, then they are ready to become a Christian by believing). Of course, Jesus was the only one who never sinned, but we should be willing to try to “follow” His example. As you will see in chapter 1, chapter 6, and chapter 7 of this book, people must be consciously or unconsciously willing to follow Jesus if they want to become a Christian.

Jesus said in Matthew 16:25, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.”

John 2:23-25 says, “Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.”

And Luke 13:22-24 says, “And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.”

If you live in the US and other developed countries, you don't see many people doing good works so they will go to heaven or taking a lot of time out of their day to follow religious regulations. However, you see the majority of people spend more of their time doing what they want to do and not what God wants them to do, even if they have already prayed or made a decision to become a Christian. They still practice sins on purpose, control the way they handle their money, plans of each day, future goals, physical safety (Matthew 10:28), and enjoy someone or something more than telling people how to become Christians and/or doing other things to help others, and when they aren’t doing that, thinking about the things of God. They spend more of their time thinking, saying, watching and listening to, going where, and doing what they want instead of what the Lord wants. They spend a lot of their time trying to impress others with things they have and/or by the way they look and talking about and admitting that they think about sex almost constantly. It's also impossible to deny that we are living in the last days; Jesus is coming soon. Second Timothy 3:1-5 confirms, "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." Notice how 2 Timothy 3:1-5 matches up to how most people live today. Since we are living in the last days, (and most people live the way 2 Timothy 3:1-5 say they will live in the last days), and Jesus said, "Broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:", that means the broad road doesn't describe people trying to earn their salvation by doing good works and/or conforming to strick regulations/traditions like those of the Pharisees in Jesus' day.

So, there are two different roads/lifestyles - the broad road (described in the previous paragraph) and the narrow road (described in chapter 39 of this book), and there are two different type of people - those who are on the broad road and those who follow Jesus on the narrow road (described in chapter 39 of this book). It is impossible to deny that the majority of people don't truly follow Jesus.

Similarily, Luke 13:22–24 says, "And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able." If people aren't willing to live this way "from this moment on", they aren't ready to believe and be saved. Literally the man asked Jesus, "Are there few that are being saved?" So, the reason that few people get saved is because they don’t strive to enter in at the straight gate (they need to be very willing to get on the narrow road and live the way it describes from that moment on and for the rest of their life (A visual summary/example of what this invovles is described in chapter 39 of this book.), no matter who or what circumstances tries to stop them), and then they are ready to believe and be saved. Striving (trying very hard) to enter in at the straight gate doesn't mean believing that Jesus is your Savior, because many people believe that. If that was true, just about everyone in the US will go to heaven. However, Jesus taught that few will enter, The reason is because they don't strive to enter in at the straight gate, not because they don't believe in Jesus.
