Opening Prayer - Heavenly Father we thank You for this oppertunity to worship You and study Your Word. We're eternally thankful that the Holy Spirit has given us a knowledge about Your Word, the Bible, so that we can help lead other people to Your Son. We're especially thankful for the oppertunity to begin this series on false teachings. Please help us to not be deceived by these teachings. We pray that everyone who reads or listens to these sermons who are not a Christian will become a Christian. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

False Teachings

The Lord has led me to begin a Sunday evening series on popular teaching in churches that has literally sent people to hell. The unfortunate thing is that these pastors and teachers refuse to admit that they are wrong and change their views. However, not all of these pastors and teachers are trying to trick people, but it is very important for you to learn about these unbiblical views and warn others so they will not be deceived by these false teachings. Therefore, please pass these sermons on to others.

Before I begin to warn you about teachings that are false, the Bible actually instructs members of a church to remove people from their church who claim to be Christians, but they refuse to stop their evil ways. This definitely includes proven false teachers who are pastors and Sunday school teachers. 1 Corinthians 5:12,13; 2 John 1: 9-11; 1 Corinthians 5:2,7; 2 Corinthians 6:14-16; 2 Corinthians 11:3-6,12-15; 1 Timothy 1:3; 3:1-10; and Titus 1:6-9 support this.

False Teaching # 3 - Quit beating yourself up over your sins; if you have prayed "1 time" to become a Christian, you will go to Heaven.

The Bible's teaching - Hebrews 12:4-13 says, "4Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

5And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

12Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; 13And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed."

One of the jobs of the Holy Spirit is to let us know that we have thought, said, done, and desired something that was sinful. When a Christian sins, they should feel guilty and upset that they have sinned, and they want God to forgive them for that sin and try to not say, think, do, and/or desire it again. Whenever a Christian experiences this after they have sinned, the Lord is disciplining them, but this doesn't always prove that someone is really a Christian.

People may believe they are a Christian because they are bothered that they sinned, but if they never truly repent (try very hard "from that moment on" to not say, think, do, and/or desire that sin again), something is wrong.

Hebrews 12:4-13 and 2 Corinthians 5:17,18a and Colossians 3:1-4 seem to contradict themselves. 2 Corinthians 5:17,18a and Colossians 3:1-4 means if someone is not a completely new person over time after they pray or make a decision to become a Christian, they aren't really a Christian.

However, Hebrews 12:4-13 seems to mean if someone is bothered and upset because they aren't a completely new person, then that is evidence that they are a Christian, and they just need to repent and try to do better. However, they can tell God that they will try to do better, but weeks, months, and years after they have supposedly repented, they should be well on their way to becoming a completely new person (2 Corinthians 5:17 and Colossians 3:1-4). If this has not happened, they are not really a Christian, even though they are bothered and upset because they haven't been living the Christian life the best that they can. Even people in prison are ashamed of themselves for not living the way that they should live.

So when a pastor or Sunday school teacher tells Christians to not beat them selves up if they sin, the people in the audience who think that they are a Christian but really aren't, can be mis-led. When these people sin, and they aren't bothered or feel guilty about it, they believe that it is perfectly normal. Plus, when they hear pastors and Sunday school teachers say that everyone who prays a prayer or makes a decision to become a Christian will go to Heaven, they are being deceived even more. How sad it is when pastors and Sunday school teachers refuse to admit that they are wrong and change their teaching.

2 Corinthians 13:5 says, "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates (not really saved)?"

So people won't believe that they are a Christian when they're really not and end up going to Hell, God has given many tests (or examinations) in His Word, the Bible, for people to take that will help them to know if they are really a Christian. This website - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com has many of these tests that you can take. If you have failed, you will have the oppertunity to become a Christian before it is too late.
