The Treasure And Pearl Of Great Price

Matthew 13:44-45

44Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

45Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

These verses are outlining the value of heaven, which is priceless. I believe some Christians interpret this parable to mean that, since everything else fails in comparison to heaven, we must be willing to give up everything we have in this life (our interests, money spent on our pleasures, future goals, and time we spend each day, etc.), and direct everything at serving God and worshiping Him.

Obviously, that is very intimidating, and there doesn't seem to be much joy in being willing to live that way, even though the people in these parables were overcome with joy in selling all they had. But, when you think about it, discovering the realities of going to heaven one day is indeed overwhelming. And especially for me, understanding how God wants us to live and knowing how to have assurance of going to heaven is priceless. (These things are outlined in chapter 39 and other chapters of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com)

So definitely, I would be willing to give up my old lifestyle in order to know how I can become a Christian, know how to live the Christian lifestyle, and have assurance of my salvation, plus, eagerly awaiting all heaven has in store.

If you have read chapter 39 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com you will see that literally giving up everything and living in solitude isn't what happens.  Instead of giving up, we actually gain.
