For Sunday evening services, the Lord has lead me to do a Bible study for practical Bible verses in Acts. Please come back to these Bible lessons in order to review them and learn them. Whenever we have learned the meaning of Bible verses and think about them throughout each day, we will be in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Not only that, but when we are in a situation in our daily lives and are tempted to sin, we can think back to what we have learned from the Bible and say to ourselves, "The Bible says not to do what I am tempted to say, think, do, and/or desire right now, so I am going to refuse to give in to this temptation." This is what Romans 12:2 means, and it says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is also the pattern that Jesus used when the devil tempted Him to sin in Matthew 4:1-11.

Acts 20:1-38

1And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into Macedonia. 2And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece, 3And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia. (Christians should minister, but they're allowed to avoid places they are threatened. Acts 9:23-25 records a similar event.) 4And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. 5These going before tarried for us at Troas. 6And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.

7And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. 8And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together. 9And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. 10And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him. (Someone falling from a three-story building to their death would likely cause mass panic, but not with Paul. His confident faith that the Lord would bring the young man back to life was all it took for the miracle to happen.) 11When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. 12And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.

13And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot. 14And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene. 15And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus. 16For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.

17And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church. 18And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons, 19Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, (Being proud and arrogant about how well we do the Lord's work is not a good idea; forgetting about ourselves and focusing on helping others and really caring about them is the correct attitude to have.) and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: 20And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house, 21Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. (When someone repents toward God, they are obviously willing to quit sinning on purpose after they pray or make a decision to become a Christian, because God hates sin so much that He can’t even look at it (Isaiah 59:2). If someone is willing to begin living this way after they pray or make a decision to become a Christian, they are ready to become a Christian by letting God know that they have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. People are aware of sinful actions (for example - having sex before marriage (Galatians 5:19), getting drunk (1 Corinthians 6:10), practicing homosexuality (Romans 1:26-28), talking bad about others (Romans 1:29), lying, and stealing), but they also must be willing to change the way they spend their time each day and their thoughts. These topics are discussed in more detail in chapter 5 of the pdf file book featured at this website - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com22And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: (When a Christian feels that the Holy Spirit wants them to minister to people, they should obey, even though they don't know what dangers await them.) 23Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. (Not all Christians are faced with prison and violence, but if they are, there's no escaping it. God planned for those things to happen. He knows if those things will lead to death, so they should relax in that thought and trust that God has everything under His control.) 24But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. (Like Paul, Christians' purpose in life, besides things such as prayer, Bible study, and good thoughts, is to do what the Lord wants them to do (tell people how they can become Christians, teach the Bible, give people advice, and do kind things for them, etc.). Whenever the Holy Spirit leads them to do these things, they should do them the rest of their lives. As this verse explains, nothing else really matters. With this in mind, life becomes less stressful and fulfilling.)

25And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. 26Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. (A Christian has done their job (telling people how to become Christians) if they fully explain it (Acts 20:27). (The following website gives an example of how to do this - http://chriswaug5.wix.com/howtogotoheaven) Paul fully explained; he didn't tell people to just believe that Jesus died for their sins, was buried, and arose from the dead. (see Acts 20:20-21; Acts 26:20) If the people who hear or read the Christian's message don't follow it and become Christians, it isn't the messenger's fault.) 28Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. (Jesus purchased Christians from a life of sin and eternity in hell and provided the way for us to live holy and enter heaven one day by shedding His blood on the cross, but the Holy Spirit equips some converted Christians with the ability to teach and encourage other Christians to remain living holy, which, in turn, leads other people to become Christians.) 29For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. (Christians should be alert of false teachers and not be fooled by their false doctrines. They should compare people's teachings to the truths revealed in the Bible, and reject false doctrines. Also, in 1 Corinthians 5:12-13 Paul teaches that church members should remove people from their churches who claim to be Christians, but they refuse to stop their evil ways. This definitely includes proven false teachers who are pastors and Sunday school teachers. Second John 1:10 plainly explains that false teachers shouldn’t be welcomed. Verse 11 adds that those who bid God speed to these teachers (encourage them to continue their false teaching and give them the green light to do so) are actually partakers of their evil deeds.) 30Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. (The desire for popularity and leadership is so strong for some, that they will do anything to obtain it, even If that involves distorting the Bible's message.) 31Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. (Christians, especially pastors and teachers should continue to warn others of the false doctrine of false teachers and not to be fooled. And, those who have been warned should be cautious and remember what schemes not to fall for.) 32And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. (Once a Christian leads people to the Lord and teaches them how to live the Christian lifestyle, they have done their job, and they need to trust God to keep them in His care forever.) 33I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. 34Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. (If a Christian earns their own income and can buy what they need, the temptation to covet loses its power.) 35I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. (Christians who earn money must be willing to provide financial help to struggling people they come across. Ephesians 4:28 and Luke 12:16-21 support this. If it's an expensive need where a collection could be taken up, Christians can ask the church they attend or have supported financially to help meet their needs.)

36And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all. 37And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him, 38Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.
