For Sunday evening services, the Lord has lead me to do a Bible study for practical Bible verses in Acts. Please come back to these Bible lessons in order to review them and learn them. Whenever we have learned the meaning of Bible verses and think about them throughout each day, we will be in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Not only that, but when we are in a situation in our daily lives and are tempted to sin, we can think back to what we have learned from the Bible and say to ourselves, "The Bible says not to do what I am tempted to say, think, do, and/or desire right now, so I am going to refuse to give in to this temptation." This is what Romans 12:2 means, and it says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is also the pattern that Jesus used when the devil tempted Him to sin in Matthew 4:1-11.

Chapter 15

ACTS

Acts 15:1-10

1And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. 2When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question. 3And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren. 4And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.

5But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

6And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. 7And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. 8And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. (The belief that someone has to not only accept Jesus as their Savior but also must circumcised and never fail in obeying the law of Moses was put to rest when Peter pointed out that those who weren't circumcised became Christians after they had faith in Jesus as their Savior and showed evidence they had become Christians when they spoke in tongues (received the Holy Ghost like Peter and others at Pentecost (Acts 2:4; 10:44-47).) 10Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Never failing in obeying the law of Moses is impossible, and it never was a true requirement for salvation. Galatians 3:12 (Leviticus 18:5) means that if someone wants gain a future home in heaven, they must keep the law of Moses. Galatians 3:10 (Deuteronomy 27:26; Jeremiah 11:3) adds that those who depend on the law of Moses to gain salvation are under God's curse, because if they are trusting it to give them salvation, they must not fail in observing and obeying all its commands.

However, Christ has saved us from the penalty and curse we deserve by not obeying its law. Christ did this when they hung Him on the cross, While on the cross, He took upon himself the curse and punishment we deserved for breaking God's law. Instead of depending on our efforts to follow this law perfectly, we gain this perfect accomplishment when we trust Jesus' sacrifice on the cross to pay our penalty (Galatians 3:13-14). The Old Testament saints understood this concept and went to heaven because of their faith, not because they obeyed the law of Moses perfectly.
